Orlando Writer Advances To Finals of Contest
(released 9/18/2006)

Orlando writer/director, Ali Imran Zaidi of the local independent production company The Seventh Level, has advanced as a finalist in an annual timed screenwriting competition hosted by NYCMidnight, and sponsored by the famous New York-based Writers Boot Camp.

With over 440 entries from across the globe, entrants in phase one of the competition were given a randomly assigned subject and genre, and allowed 7 days to write an up-to 20 page original short screenplay fitting that subject and genre, complete with logline. The entries were then judged under the following criteria:

10% Logline (Level of Intrigue)
90% Story (Writing, Originality, Character Development, and Plot Development)

The 24 finalists, of which Ali is one with his screenplay "Suleyman's Travels", will now proceed to phase two in the competition; to do the same thing over, but this time within 24 hours. This year, NYCMidnight is also advancing 10 additional runners-up to the final phase for a total face-off of 34 writers ranging in residence from the USA and Canada to the UK and as far as South Africa. Ali is the only representation from Orlando, and one of only two from the state of Florida.

The first phase of the competition took place July 21st thru July 29th, with results just recently released. Phase two begins on Friday, September 22nd at 11:59pm.
