Tampa Theatre Presents The Throwback
(released 4/14/2023)

Film Tampa Bay Presents: The Throwback (2023) on Wednesday, May 3 at Tampa Theatre. Film Tampa Bay is a quarterly series designed to showcase Tampa Bay - area films, filmmakers, actors and locations through free community screenings. Next month, the series welcomes guests to be among the first to see and offer feedback on a brand new comedy, THE THROWBACK.

Written and directed by Tampa's own Mario Garcia and produced by fellow University of South Florida alumnus Michael A. Alfieri, The Throwback is a heartfelt family comedy about learning to appreciate the gifts of getting older, while never forgetting what it is like to be young. The film stars Justina Machado (Jane the Virgin) and Will Sasso (Mad TV) as a husband and wife who are stuck in a mid-life crisis when the wife suffers a post-traumatic breakdown, causing her to mentally regress to her 19-year-old self. With no memory of the past 26 years, she relives her party-girl days, while her husband picks up the pieces at home.

The Throwback also features a talented cast including Bobby Lee (And Just Like That), Gregg Sulkin (Marvel's Runaways), Michelle Randolph (1923), and St. Petersburg resident Rhonda Shear (USA's Up All Night).

Admission is free, but a reservation is required. Doors will open at 6p.m. and the first 150 patrons to enter will receive free popcorn and soda. Stay after the film screening and join Film Commissioner Tyler Martinolich moderating a Q&A with the director and producers.
