Freak Show Will Honor George A. Romero
(released 6/30/2008)

One of the biggest names in horror filmmaking will be in town for this year's Freak Show Horror Film Festival. George Romero. Enough said, right? If you haven't heard of him, you don't follow horror. Otherwise, you'll know him to be the writer and director of classics such as Night of the Living Dead, Land of the Dead, Dawn of the Dead, the Creepshow series of films, and most recently Diary of the Dead. He's kind of a big deal.

The film festival is part of the larger Spooky Empire Halloween Horror Convention aka Screamfest. I'm not sure if they are trying to change their name around from Screamfest, but it isn't mentioned as much on this year's festival website.

There will be other horror names at the convention as well such as Angus Scrimm. You know... the guy from the Phantasm movies. There's lots more to check out at the convention site at spookyempire.com.

Back to the Freak Show, they are still accepting film submissions through August 15th. Go to freakshowfilmfest.com for details on submitting. The Freak Show is run by Robert Massetti under his Fear Film banner.

One of the sponsors this year is local Steven Shea and his Abyssmal Entertainment. Maybe they were the ones starting the hype a few Fridays ago by blanketing downtown Orlando with Freak Show flyers.

The convention and film festival runs October 17-19 at the Wyndham Orlando Resort at the corner of Sand Lake and I-Drive.
