Joe received his professional theater training at the City University of New York - Brooklyn College where he studied with actor/instructor, F. Murray Abraham, Diane Barracuda, Marge Linney, David Garfield and Mark Zeller. Joe studied with Janice Cavalier as a trained tenor and has also studied movement at the Broadway Dance Center in NYC.

He is also a National Michael Chekhov Association (NMCA) alumnus and Certified Teacher Candidate, where he is currently training in the Michael Chekhov Acting Technique & Pedagogy with Master Teachers Lisa Dalton and Wil Kilroy. By the end of 2014, Joe will have achieved his acting teacher certification through the NMCA organization, and will be recognized as a Certified Acting Instructor of the Michael Chekhov Acting Technique.

Joe Herrera is a proud member of the Actors Equity Association and is a SAG-AFTRA member. A few of his credits include off-Broadway productions with Elizabeth Swados' “The Hating Pot", Director Curtiss Cook's “The Resting Place", Ralph Lee's “Heart of the Earth: A Popol Vuh Story", Rus Blackwell’s “Nativity On the Square” at the Orlando Rep, and "Ferdinand the Bull" a TheatreWorksUSA tour. Independent film roles included "The Girl in the Watermelon" alongside actress Meredith Scott Lynn and Actor, Lazaro Perez; directed by Sergio Castilla and had a TV premiere on Starz Network, “Psycho Sisters” and action-comedy, “SideKicked.” On PBS' Ghostwriter, Joe played "Quincy", the paraplegic/former gang member who inspires his brother to stay off the streets, and played guest starring roles on "America's Most Wanted" and "Law & Order." He’s worked on various short film projects in the southeast region, “Forget about the World,” “Dreamgirl,” “The Decision,” and “A Deal with Dove.”

When Joe is not acting on stage or set, he enjoys working as a professional teaching artist for Dramatic Education, Inc., where he teaches the art of theatre/acting to children ages 5-12. He has been a teaching artist for over 7 years, along with directing school/community productions where children are given the ability to apply what they have learned with “Mr. Joe,” as the students routinely call him.

Joe is actively living in the Orlando, Florida area with his wife, Vanessa and their 6 children.
